Building Security Certified Professional (BSCP™)

The Building Security Certified Professional (BSCP) certification program was created in 2006 to provide design and security professionals with a credential that demonstrates a comprehensive, multidisciplinary understanding of building security issues.   The certification was also designed to help the BSC support its' PLUS™ (Promoting Logical Unified Security) ratings program by providing building owners and operators with a pool of individuals to assist them in their pursuit of a PLUS rating.  Hence the BSC has created a database of individuals who have earned their BSCP on its PLUS website that building owners can reference when they pursue their PLUS rating.  Ultimately, the long-term goal of the BSCP program is to integrate security into every stage of the facility life-cycle-planning, design, construction, and operation.

BSCP Exam Preparation & Candidate Guide

The best way to prepare for the BSCP exam is to attend one of the BSCP Seminars. If you are unable to attend one of the seminar the BSCP Candidate Guide lists several resources that will help an individual prepare for the exam.   In addition to those resource lists the candidate guide gives a thorough explanation on the computer-based examination that you must pass to earn your BSCP.  The guide also provides some sample questions to give you a feel for actual exam.  In the future the BSC will offer online education for those who are unable to attend the BSCP seminars.

BSCP Renewal

Upon earning a BSCP an individual will be required to earn twelve (12) Professional Development Hours (PDHs) over a two year period in order to maintain their certification.  The PDHs can be earned from any of the seven domains listed above.  However, a BSCP cannot earn more than 50% of their PDHs from a single domain.  This ensures that a BSCP is maintaining a multi-disciplinary approach to their continued education.
